According to a recent report in the Sunday Business Post, Ireland is on the cusp of a major jobs boom in the tech sector, with 35,000 high-value roles expected to be created as part of a new semiconductor investment strategy.

The government is set to launch a bold industrial plan aimed at attracting semiconductor giants like Samsung and TSMC. The goal: to establish up to three chip fabrication plants (Fabs) across the country, including one leading-edge facility that would rival Intel’s €10 billion plant in Leixlip.

These jobs won’t just be in manufacturing, they’ll span engineering, R&D, infrastructure, logistics, and management, offering major opportunities for skilled professionals across the tech ecosystem.

Instead of direct grants, the state will provide subsidised, fully serviced strategic sites, developed by the IDA at an estimated cost of €1–2 billion. The initiative also prioritises regional locations outside of Dublin, supporting balanced economic growth.

The plan aligns with the EU’s 2023 Chips Act, which encourages member states to ramp up semiconductor production with relaxed state aid rules. Ireland’s strategy goes further, promising support for startups, spinouts, and talent development through R&D funding and a new semiconductor advisory council.

With 130+ semiconductor companies already operating in Ireland and €13.5 billion in exports, this new strategy could firmly establish the country as a European leader in high-tech manufacturing and a magnet for top tech talent.
