Ireland continues to shine as a hub for tech talent in Europe with new Eurostat data showing the country ranks sixth across the EU for the share of workers employed in tech-related roles.
At the end of 2024, 6.3% of Ireland’s workforce were employed as information and communication technology (ICT) specialists, above the EU average of 5%. That places Ireland just behind Sweden, Luxembourg, Finland, Estonia, and the Netherlands.
The figures reflect continued growth in the sector EU-wide, with ICT employment rising 0.2 percentage points in the last year and 1.6 points since 2014. More than 10 million people across the bloc are now employed in tech.
Encouragingly, Ireland also ranks well for gender diversity within the sector. Women made up 24.4% of Ireland’s tech workforce in 2024, the fifth highest in the EU, and significantly above the EU average of 19.5%. Estonia, Romania, and Bulgaria had the highest percentages of female ICT specialists.
These insights highlight both Ireland’s strong position in the European tech economy and the ongoing need to address gender imbalances across the industry.
