The Opportunity
We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer with strong Java development experience to join a high-performing engineering team working on scalable data platforms and backend systems within a complex enterprise environment. The role will involve building and optimising data pipelines, supporting real-time and batch processing solutions, and working across large-scale distributed systems. You will collaborate closely with technical teams, analysts, and business stakeholders to support data-driven initiatives and enterprise-level applications.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable data engineering solutions using Java
- Build and maintain real-time and batch data processing pipelines
- Work with technologies including Apache Spark, Kafka, SQL, and NoSQL databases
- Support integration of data across multiple enterprise and operational systems
- Contribute to backend services, microservices architecture, and cloud-based solutions
- Improve platform performance, reliability, and scalability across distributed systems
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including engineering, analytics, and business stakeholders
- Contribute to engineering standards, architecture discussions, and best practices
Experience Required
- Strong commercial experience with Java development (Java 8/11/17)
- Solid background in Data Engineering and large-scale data processing
- Hands-on experience with Spark, Kafka, ETL frameworks, and distributed systems
- Experience working with SQL and NoSQL databases
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP
- Understanding of data modelling, warehousing, and microservices architecture
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Previous experience within financial services or enterprise-scale environments would be beneficial
